Characteristics

Evergreen tree. Liked for its red.-copper colour when it blossoms and its bark which flakes.


Location

In a Mediterranean climate outside during the whole year. Protect against cold in winter.


Watering

Abundant in summer and moderate in winter.


Fertilization

In spring and autumn.

Re-potting

Every 2 or 3 years, in spring..

Substrate

100% Akadama, or a mixture of Akadama with 20% of volcanic earth.


Pruning and pinching

Pruning

To be done the whole year.

Pinching

Pinch when the branch has developed about 5 to 6 leaves, cutting the two leaves at the top of the branches

Wiring

It is not usual.


Curiosities

In its countries of origin this tree is used to form hedges because it scomes back very well after a drastic pruning.
