III INTERNATIONAL BONSAI AND SUISEKI
MISTRAL BONSAI CONTEST “PREMIO OLEA”

We present here the basic contest rules of the III Concurso Internacional de Bonsái y Suiseki Mistal Bonsaí “Premio Olea” in which all the enthusiasts of bonsai and/or suiseki are invited to participate.This competition will take place during the “IV Congreso Internacional Mistral Bonsai” from the 31st March to the 1th April 2007.This year we will once more count one the presence of the grand Master Masahiko Kimura as well as several other demonstrators of international fame. The contest has a prize of 14.000 € and the “Premio Olea” trophy in several different categories. Moreover, the 3rd edition of our book “Premio Olea” will be published and presented, featuring all the bonsai and suiseki finalists.

 

CONTEST RULES



1) About the contestants.


1.1 - Amateurs as well as professionals in the art of suiseki and bonsai can participate, except those related to the organising entity.

1.2 - Inscription and participation in the competition are free.

1.3 - Each contestant can present a maximum of 3 trees and/or 3 suiseki, all of which will be considered individually.

1.4 - The maximum limit for the receiving inscriptions will be up to, and including, the 23th February 2007.

1.5 - A pre-selection of the bonsai and suiseki will be made from photographs. Each contestant will have to send a picture (as perfect as possible) of each tree and/or suiseki, minimum size 10x15cm. or on Mistral Bonsai web: www.mistralbonsai.com sending the pictures and the inscription in the same document.

1.6 - Each picture will have to include a properly filled in inscription form as provided by the organising entity. Only the inscriptions including this form will be considered valid.

1.7 - The photographs provided by the contestants will be non returnable.

1.8 - The Technical Department of Mistral Bonsai S.L. will be in charge of the selection of bonsai and suiseki. This entity will contact those contestants who are selected.

1.9 - Those interested in participating in the competition will have to send an inscription form to: “III Concurso Internacional de Bonsái y Suiseki Mistral Bonsai Premio Olea”. Mistral Bonsai S.L. Ctra. N-340 Km. 1093, 43894 – Camarles (Tarragona) Spain

2) About the trees and suiseki.

2.1 - The competition is open to both national bonsai and suiseki and those from abroad.

2.2 - Trees will have to show a well-cared for appearance and be free of plagues and diseases.

2.3 - Bonsais with wired branches will be accepted, as long as the wire is not placed on the trunk or on primary branches and does not interfere with the visual aesthetics of the tree.

2.4 - Trees in cultivation pots will not be accepted, and all ceramic presentation pots will have to be clean and in perfect condition.

2.5 - All of the bonsai will have to be presented with their own stands. Suisekis will have to be presented with their own bases or suiban.

2.6 - The trees and/or suiseki will be placed by the contestants in the appropriate places assigned by Mistral Bonsai for their exhibition. The schedule will be from 15.00 hours to 19.00 hours on the 30th March 2007 (Friday). Should it happen that any owner is not able to be present to place their tree or suiseki themselves, the Technical Department of Mistral Bonsai will do it for them.


2.7 - The reception of trees and/or suiseki will begin on the 28th March 2007 (Wednesday from 8.00 hours to 19.00 hours – Tusday from 8.00 hours to 19.00 hours) and will continue until the 30th March 2007 (Friday from 9.00 hours to 17.00 hours).

2.8 - Mistral Bonsai provides the necessary logistics for the transport of trees and suiseki from several cities. For more information about this service, please, contact us at: premioolea@mistralbonsai.com


2.9 - The trees and suiseki participating in the contest will have only an identification number so that the identity of the owners will be unknown to the jury members.

2.10 - The trees and suiseki will have to remain in exhibition until 18.00 hours 1st April 2007 (Sunday).

2.11 - Mistral Bonsai will be responsible for taking care of the trees and suiseki during the event.

3) About the competition.

3.1 - The results of the contest and the awarding of prizes will be made during a Celebration Dinner, on the 1st April 2007 (Saturday).

3.2 - The bonsais and suiseki selected will be included in the book “III Premio Olea”.

3.3 - The total value of the prizes amounts to 14.000 euros, divided into 10 categories. All prizes are accumulative.

4) About prizes. Bonsai

First prize: The tree selected by the jury as the winner of the contest will receive a voucher for 6.000 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea Trophy” , the publication of an article in the magazines ‘Bonsái Pasión’ and ‘France Bonsai’ and a special distinction “First prize to the best bonsai”..

Second prize: This will consist of a voucher for 2.000 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy, the publication of an article in the magazines ‘Bonsái Pasión’ and ‘France Bonsai’, and a special distinction “Second prize to the best bonsai”.

Third prize: This will consist of a voucher for 1.000 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy, the publication of an article in the magazines ‘Bonsái Pasión’ and ‘France Bonsai’, and a special distinction “Third prize to the best bonsai”

Prize to the best bonsai of European origin: This will consist of a voucher for 500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy and the special distinction “Best European tree”.

Prize to the best Shohin: This will consist of a voucher for 500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy and the special distinction “Best Shohin”.

Prize to the best presentation: This will consist of a voucher for 500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy and the special distinction “Best presentation”.

Prize to the most popular tree as voted by the public: This will consist of a voucher for 500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy and the special distinction “The most popular tree as voted by the public”.

5) About prizes. Suiseki

First prize: This will consist of a voucher for 1.500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy.

Second prize: This will consist of a voucher for 1.000 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy.

Third prize: This will consist of a voucher for 500 euros in Mistral Bonsai products, a “Premio Olea” trophy.
